Brief History:
Towards the end of summer of 2007, the two co-founders of Abaqus, Shaili & John were at a dinner at Il Fornaio in Palo Alto with a couple of their former colleagues from the consumer electronics & semiconductor industry when the 'geo-ness' of all things around them clicked into place. John & Shaili had been following the "Where" trends and Geo-location and mapping, but that night realized that "Where" was converging with everything that people do i.e. from Photography, to Fitness, to travel, to business. Not only that, but it was moving from the well known PC & web platforms to consumer devices like phones and cameras. Geo awareness of applications was everywhere! However, what they noticed was that current geo-awareness was about things, and not so much about individuals. They wanted to create a service that at the core was serving the individual, keeping their geo-information safe and available for use by a growing number of web applications, and most importantly, for that data to provide meaning outside the simple map mashups that everyone thinks of.Abaqus was launched with this focus on providing GeoWeb & Semantic Web solutions for consumers and enterprise customers.
